“It’s been a long time coming, but Marvel Comics is finally announcing its latest title in its epic superhero movie universe, the next chapter in the Marvel Universe,” the Wall Street Journal reports.
“The announcement comes just one day before Disney’s Marvel’s Inhumans, which is scheduled to debut July 21, hits theaters.”
“This is a major milestone for the company, which launched its own cinematic universe in 2016 and has had some of the most iconic characters on the planet on its books for decades,” the Journal writes.
“Marvel is making this a cinematic universe and this is the first time we will see the characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe appear in an animated film.”
“While it has yet to be announced what the films plot will be, we know that Inhumans will follow the adventures of an alien race known as the Sentinels who have been captured by the Inhumans’ government, who are seeking to use them as a tool to conquer the planet.
“Also set to appear in Inhumans is the second-generation Inhuman Maria Hill, who will play Maria Hill and will be a major villain in the film.” “
Black Widow, who was the first member of the Inhuman family, is set to play the role of Captain Marvel, a superhero who is the daughter of the original Inhuman, Quicksilver,” the newspaper adds.
“Also set to appear in Inhumans is the second-generation Inhuman Maria Hill, who will play Maria Hill and will be a major villain in the film.”
Marvel will release the first of the films, titled Inhumans: War, in 2019, which stars Scarlett Johansson, Josh Brolin, Josh Gad, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders, Michael Peña, and Tessa Thompson.
The movie will be directed by Jon Watts, who also helmed Iron Man 3 and The Avengers.
The company previously announced that its next film will be the third in the series, with Thor: Ragnarok, which was released earlier this year.
